Does the tooth fairy know where I am?

essay, non-fiction No Comments »

2013 ~ Just came across this pic from 1982 with my brother, Tony Ladesich (10 years old at the time). He spent the summer with me in Colorado that year…during that stay, Tony asked me, “Do you think the tooth fairy will know where to find me?” I looked at him, “Why?” In a very matter of fact tone, Tony answered, “Cause I have a loose tooth and I could really use the cash.” The tooth fairy did indeed locate Tony and awarded him with a bonus: this fish.

art, essay, non-fiction, video No Comments »

2013 ~ Happy Mother’s Day to everyone! I’m so excited to share with you all this beautiful short film (18 minutes), Anela en Rouge, that is the story of me coming full circle in recovering from the death of my mother, and how my mother promises to stay in contact with me after death. The story speaks to all mothers and daughters. Cara Myers is the producer of the film. Anthony Ladesich (also my brother) is the director of photography. Several film festivals selected and showed the film. I promise you will love Anela en Rouge. Beginning today the film is open to the public! Please share with all you know. (to all my mother’s children and grandchildren, too)

Moment of Nostalgia

Photo, poetry No Comments »

Eight years old,
I lie in my bed,
the first gray light
of a snow-covered
January morning
breaks through
my window
with a new
knowledge
about life.

My father
now resides
solely
in my heart
and the world
I know trembles
in thoughts
of losing
my mother too.

She realizes
and feels
my horror
and quietly
my mother
slips into bed
beside me
pulls up
warm blankets
around us
and whispers
“We will
be alright.
I promise.”

Peaceful Sheep

non-fiction, poetry No Comments »

One day while in Portugal for the Humanity’s Team Global Council Meeting (we stayed on a farm) I saw this fine sheep. It was raining. I could only think of two things when I saw this lovely animal. The first thing I thought of was the movie “Babe” where Babe meets Ma for the first time and says, “My what a strong, sturdy face you have.” And the second thing I thought about was why don’t sheep shrink when their wool gets wet ~

Ewe on the Loose

essay, non-fiction, Photo No Comments »

This sheep had some how escaped the fenced in area at the farm where I stayed in Portugal last week. I was very, very, very close to it…maybe 6 feet. While looking through the lens and snapping this picture, I had a flashback from about 25+ years ago when I was backpacking through the Canadian Rockies. I was standing extremely close to several beautiful and large mountain goats. There were at least thirty or so other people standing around looking at these impressive climbers and taking pictures, myself included. Apparently, I’d gotten just a little to close to one of the kids, as through the lens of my camera I could see an adult goat, with head down and horns aimed in my direction.

I think this was one of my first real experiences of “fight or flight.” Embarrassingly, and out of my control, I turned and ran right over a woman standing behind me. Thankfully, she was not injured, and she explained to me that she was turning to run at the same second herself…we actually laughed about it after we pulled ourselves back together. And great thanks that the goat didn’t ram anyone…so as this memory was floating through my mind while taking the picture, I decided to back up from this “loose” ewe, just in case.

The Holy Encounter

quote, thoughts No Comments »

If most of us on the planet have the instantaneous instinct to stop our cars to protect life (if we aren’t going to cause a greater calamity by doing so), then why can’t we show this instinct in our every day lives in being kind to our families, friends and strangers? We have the capacity to be instinctively kind and caring towards life itself….this is how we will collectively create peace on earth. It is possible. This is the holy encounter presented to us every day.
